I managed to get through it, but it wasn’t easy
This book repeatedly shows that the main protagonist is not a good leader or capable of handling personal issues, but then tells that she is, and goes with the tells. Not to mention that the thought process is hardly the alleged genius level – there was one point where they were not undertaking a certain tactical option because “then the opposition will know”, when unless the opposition is composed entirely of congenital idiots it was something Captain Obvious couldn’t have missed, and if the opposition was composed entirely of congenital idiots they wouldn’t have been a threat in the first place. In another, the protagonist beards a bad guy in his den verbally, threatening him, and is completely unprepared in case that bad guy decides to do something about it, which any opponent with the intelligence of a cockroach would have done but this one doesn’t. Lots of scenery chewing, damned near zero thought, repeated egregious stupidity. I got to the point where the only person on the protagonist team I didn’t despise was the original victim’s girlfriend, and only because it wasn’t her fault.
I suppose you could read it for a completely mindless escape vehicle, but be certain to keep your brain switched off the entire time.
I will not be reading any more of this author’s books.
