Character Interview: Petra in Fountains of Aescalon

1: Go ahead and introduce yourself.

I am Petra

2: Tell us where and when were you born.

I came into being as the result of a story involving the gods of my people.

3: How would you describe yourself?

I am a fantasy woman, here to test the devotion and character of men. I can appear in whatever form is needed to appeal to a given man’s basest instincts.

4: Tell us about where you grew up.

It was long ago, and there have been three waves of conquerors since I then. Several thousand years, and the memory of even a demi-goddess runs together.

5: How old are you?

I do not know exactly. Somewhere over eight thousand years at a minimum, perhaps as much as fifteen.

6: Did you have a happy childhood? Why/why not?

I did not have a childhood at all – on that my memories are clear. I came into being as an adult.

7: Past/ present relationships? How did they affect you?

I have never really had a relationship. Men lust after me, and the ones who resist despise me. Women hate me. The defining characteristic of my life is ‘alone’. I would give anything to change this.

8: What do you value above all else in life?

I want a friend, a companion, someone to be with

9: What are you obsessed with?

My divine curse is to be a seductress of men, to seduce and punish men who are unfaithful. I cannot not do this – it is my curse.

10: How do your beliefs make life better for yourself and the people you care about?

Once upon a time, I was a threat, that unfaithful men would be punished. For those who resisted, I made their wives lives better. But since my original people were conquered, even that is gone – a few stories portray me as an evil demon, but it’s a useless, lonely existence.

11: Biggest fear?

That I will die, or fade away to nothing, never having known anything else.

12: What line will you never cross?

It is my nature to cross lines. I am forced by my curse to do whatever it takes. I have no ability to refuse.

13: What is the best thing that ever happened to you? The worst?

I hoped the conquest of my homeland would free me. Instead it bound me forever, unable to change, and robbed me of what little good I was able to accomplish.

14: Most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?

I am incapable of embarrassment. Or shame, or guilt. But there is no joy in my existence, either.

15: Biggest secret?

I would do anything to change my nature. Anything.

16: What is the one word you would use to define yourself?

Lonely
