Characters Introduced in A Guardian From Earth

The new characters that did not appear in The Man From Empire are mostly of the Scimtar family, descended from Osh’s father, who is one of the Empire’s most important leaders.

Scimtar himself is one of those larger than life characters. He himself is big, an exaggerated speed build, even taller, but wider and more massive than most – the Empire measures it as three ififths fifteen, but in terms of how we speak about it on Earth, it’s seven feet or 213 centimeters, an expansive, generous personality but he has learned the need to keep track of every detail. He is about eighty thousand years old, a Sixth Order Guardian, one of the primary folks behind the re-establishment of the Empire, and head of one of the largest commercial groups in the Empire as well as a Nonus, one step below the Guardian in authority, and a Senior Admiral in the Imperial military.

Helene is Scimtar’s wife and mother of his second group of children. They have been married somewhere over two square (7200 Imperial years), and she herself is about three square in age. She is an entertainer by profession – art, dance, acting, production, as well as the social center of the family. Publicly a Third Order Guardian, she has no formal position with regards to House Scimtar’s commercial or military activities, but most observers credit her with being what motivated Scimtar to move from being an important Baryan ally to standing on his own as head of a top tier family (The truth is more complicated)

Scimtar and Helene’s elder four children were all born in within about a fifteen year period roughly one square twenty (4800) years ago. They were what the Empire considers young adults among the major families when the Ston Rebellion occurred. They are publicly Fifth Order Guardians.

Iaren Scimtar(ScIaren) is the oldest of Scimtar’s second group of children, a Commodore in the imperial military, attached to the staff of the Merlon, and therefore living in the smaller family residence on Sharanna, the Imperial capital. He’s built to the same proportions as his father, if a little smaller. Like his father and brother, he has a darker complexion that Grace compares to inhabitants of the Indian subcontinent. He and Amras are family rivals, continually competing with each other. He is a member of the Great Council, an Octus-in-rank. He is not currently married; the family does not discuss his ex – ever. He has an adult daughter, Onta (ScOnta), who lives in the Sharanna Rsidence with him, only rarely interacting with the rest of the family.

Amras Scimtar (ScAmras) is the heir presumptive, an Octus-in-fact as well as rank, running a province in one of the outlying provinces outside First Galaxy. He also hold military rank as a Commodore, inactive. He and Iaren are rivals within the family, but Amras is the designated heir for a reason. He has the same dark complexion and build as his brother Iaren. He primarily lives in his province, but does make frequent visits to the family Residence. His wife Corella is a Staff Colonel on involuntary recall to the Imperial military. They have an adult son, Anosh (ScAnosh), who is at the moment an assistant to his aunt within the family commercial interests.

Anara Scimtar (ScAnara) and her husband Gilras are currently technical specialists working on an eleven-dimensional generalization of Vector Drive, so transport to alternate instances can be as fast as transport within the Imperial Home Instance. She has red hair and a much lighter complexion than her brothers or father (Guardians can alter their physical characteristics), and is also much shorter, at roughly two ififths thirtythree (5 foot 6 or roughly 167 centimeters Earth measure), she has chosen an endurance build. Like her brothers, she is an Octus-in-rank and member of the Great Council. Anara and Gilras have four children, daughter Anri (ScAnri) an adult serving in the military, daughter Amtre (ScAmtre) also serving, son Asto (ScAsto), who has not yet taken his final test for legal adulthood, and son Etonas (ScEtonas) who is about 13 Earth years of age.

Anana Scimtar (ScAnana) is the current head of family commercial interests, and does pretty much nothing else. Like her sister, she has chosen an endurance build, at roughly the same size, but her complexion is intermediate between her brothers and her sister, a shade of brown that Grace likens to her own, perhaps able to pass as Grace’s sister were they on Earth. She is also an Octus-in-rank and member of the Great Council. Her husband Parnit is a Prefect General in the military; his term of service is almost over and they intend to start a family while Anana is serving her term as commercial head (The older four take sixty Imperial year turns at it)

Scimtar and Helene also have two young children, Ononi (ScOnoni) and Imre (ScImre) fraternal twins, about four Earth years of age physically, but as Grace quickly discovers, more adult than many fully grown people on Earth.

Ferugio is the Scimtar’s educational overseer, born operant but has never bothered to qualify as a Guardian. He nonetheless knows how to educate family members to become useful adults within the context of the Empire and its Great Families.
