I’m trying something here: Asking the same questions of the viewpoint character at or near the beginning of each book in a series to demonstrate how they have changed due to events. This series is Preparations For War, and Building The People is the second in that series
Go ahead and introduce yourself.
My new cover name is Ossitar. Yes, it’s a pseudonym, a graycode for local use here on Calmena, so nobody associates me with Joe, who was a founder of N’yeschlass, and would be ancient by now
Tell us where and when were you born.
Ossitar was born on a small island off the southern coast of Wimarglr Continent on Calmena, which is also where Joe told the people of N’yeschlass he was born. The people of Calmena know nothing of other planets
How would you describe yourself?
The Calmenan humans think I’m what they call agaani, their word for operant psi talents. In reality, I’m a trained Second Order Guardian, weak, but I passed all the Imperial tests.
Tell us about where you grew up.
The small island is a place where the fractal demons leave humans alone because it’s not worth the effort, which means the people there get to live how they want.
How old are you?
My new cover is supposedly three eights and two of the short Calmenan years. In fact, I’m fiftythree Imperial.
Did you have a happy childhood? Why/why not?
Ossitar grew up on a remote island too small for the fractal demons to bother with. That means that by Calmenan standards, he had a wonderful childhood.
Past/ present relationships? How did they affect you?
Ossitar is married to Tellea, who looks an awful lot like Joe’s wife Asina. We’ve been married about fourteen Earth years. She redeemed me. I want to be the best I can because of her.
What do you value above all else in life? Tellea’s happiness
What are you obsessed with?
I am doing everything I can to teach the Calmenans what they need to know to be a thorn in the fractal demons’ side.
How do your beliefs make life better for yourself and the people you care about?
The people of N’Yeschlass have a proud independent city capable of defending itself now. We’re going to do the same for the rest of Calmena
Biggest fear?
That the fractal demons will concentrate enough effort on Calmena to wipe out the independent humans.
What line will you never cross?
I will never do anything that will hurt Tellea. She’s been hurt more than enough for three lifetimes.
What is the best thing that ever happened to you? The worst?
The best is Tellea/Asina. The worst was having to leave N’yeschlass after we spent so much time building it up.
Most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?
When I was just a kid, I used to smoke pot. I was working Tia Grace’s dog farm before official Imperial contact, and the feds raided us. I had about half an ounce, and it was all the excuse they needed to arrest us all and try and force Tia Grace to do what they wanted
Biggest secret?
None of the natives can know Tellea and I are Asina and Joe from N’yeschlass
What is the one word you would use to define yourself? Focused.
What is your current goal?
Tellea and I have founded a new settlement where we’re going to teach the Calmenans the arts of sailing and shipbuilding.
